About Us
How it all started according to Dad
It was early April when my wife caught our two boys, Caleb and Dylan (11 and 9 at the time) outside fighting with each other in the empty lot on our block. She immediately grounded them from all electronics for a week.
During this week, we played more board games than usual. It was after a game of Clue when one of them mentioned that now there should be a way for the killer to escape. I told them to make that a board game.
A couple of ideas were tossed out and we probably wouldn't have proceeded with any of them. However, a couple of days later, their Great Grandmother passed and we found ourselves on a road trip from Wichita, KS to Bowling Green, KY.
Needing something to keep them busy in the car during the 25 hour roundtrip, I took a notebook and a pencil and had them brainstorm ideas. I played devil's advocate, and found problems with their ideas, that they would have to fix.
They were quite creative, and had some really good ideas. Over the course of the road trip the idea evolved from a board game that was a cross between Clue and Kill Dr. Lucky to more of a card game that was closer to Among Us and Exploding Kittens.
Knowing that they really did have a great concept, we put together our prototype with construction paper, index cards, a pen, and a glue stick. We ended up with a cool game that was really hard to shuffle!
We left it alone for a bit, but I started looking for a way to make decent cards that were easier to shuffle. We found a printer that would allow you to print one copy, was going to cost around $100 for just the cards.
I was really considering making the purchase, guessing it would be a nice thing for just us to have, but didn't want to spend that much at the time. I was discussing it with my wife when Dylan said "I'll split it with you."
That was enough for me! Not only was Dylan going go pitch in some of his birthday money, but I also knew that it meant something to him. So we got one game printed, and stored it in Tupperware. We would take it with us when we went to visit friends and family, and received great compliments on the game. Several of them even asked where they could purchase one.
So, two Christmases later, we had 10 games printed up and gave them out as gifts. Caleb was sick that Christmas, and it was during the height of Covid-19 pandemic, but we stayed home and didn't go to my parents. We sent presents and heard that my niece had her feelings hurt when she didn't think she got one. The story we heard was it was very short lived when her Dad pointed out a wrapped present the exact size as the one her cousins had just opened.
We have a large spread out family over the states, and still had people asking how they could get a game. We have a nephew in the military that said he and his friends played it a lot. The boys took it to school, and had a teacher that really wanted one. Still we sat on the game waiting for the day to be able to afford printing enough to bring the prices down to a more reasonable cost.
Now, we are proud to be able to present the game our kids designed. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have, that it brings you together around the table for laughs, and allows for some good natured competition and sibling rivalry!
